Electrical Supply for Northridge

Stocked across two generations of Northridge wiring — original tract-era and nineties rebuild — plus the rental turn material and outdoor gear the big lots up here call for.

Northridge, CA

A Neighborhood That Got Rewired Twice

Northridge has an unusual housing profile for the Valley. A lot of it is original ranch-era tract, but a large share was rebuilt or heavily repaired after 1994, which means you can open a wall on one street and find nineties work, and open a wall two streets over and find original cloth-jacketed branch circuits. Neither one tells you what the panel looks like until you take the cover off.

Practically, that means a Northridge crew cannot standardize its truck stock. You need old-work boxes and modern remodel housings, ungrounded-circuit GFCI solutions and current AFCI breakers, cloth-wire splice fittings and NM-B. We stock across that whole range instead of assuming one vintage.

Getting to the counter

From Northridge it is south on Reseda or Balboa to Sherman Way, then east. Coming off the 118, drop down and pick up Sherman Way the same way. It is surface street the whole way if you want to skip the 405.

Turn Material, Ready to Go

The blocks around the university run heavy on rentals — houses split into rooms, older apartment courts, duplexes, and small complexes that turn over on an academic calendar.

Turn work is about getting a unit rentable fast and to code. That is devices, plates, and fixtures in quantity, plus the safety items every unit needs signed off: GFCI protection in kitchens and baths, smoke and CO detectors, working bath ventilation, and exterior lighting that comes on when it is supposed to.

Landlords and property managers buy at the same wholesale pricing as contractors do. Bring a list for one unit or for a whole building and we will price it the same day, and special order anything we have to.

  • Leviton and Enerlites switches, receptacles, GFCIs, and plates
  • First Alert and Kidde smoke and CO detectors
  • Panasonic ventilation fans and replacement bath fans
  • Flush mounts, wraps, closet and hallway fixtures from Satco and NICOR
  • Exterior wall packs and Intermatic photocell and timer control
  • Romex NM-B and THHN/THWN cut to length
  • Breakers and load centers when a turn turns into a panel job

Take the Cover Off First

01

Identify what is actually in there

Northridge panels range from original tract-era gear to nineties replacements to recent work. Photograph the label and the interior and bring it in — the bus style decides which breakers fit, and guessing costs a trip.

02

Decide replace or add

Sometimes the answer is a subpanel for an addition or ADU rather than a full service change. We stock load centers, subpanels, meter sockets, and disconnects for either path.

03

Order the whole change at once

Breakers, conductors, grounding and bonding, weatherproof hardware, and the devices the new circuits land on — quoted the same day so nothing holds up the inspection.

Big lots, long runs

Everything Past the Back Door

North of Nordhoff and out toward the horse-property pockets, the lots get large. Detached garages, workshops, ADUs, pools, and yards deep enough that a light at the back of the property is a real underground run, not an extension cord.

We carry the pieces for it: PVC and fittings for underground runs with THHN/THWN pulled through them, subpanels and disconnects for outbuildings, weatherproof boxes and in-use covers, Dabmar landscape and path fixtures, EMCOD low-voltage transformers, Alloy LED linear for structures and hardscape, AirZone ceiling fans for covered patios, and Infratech heaters. Grounding and bonding hardware for the whole run is on the shelf too — see electrical supplies.

Also worth knowing
  • We cross-reference discontinued fixtures — useful on nineties rebuild stock where the original trim is long gone
  • Special orders run through hundreds of manufacturers, not just our 35+ stock brands
  • Same-day quotes on materials lists, whether it is one unit or a full takeoff
  • Will-call pickup at the Sherman Way counter; delivery can be arranged
  • One location, Van Nuys — no branch runaround, no transfer wait
Common questions

Do you sell to homeowners, or only to contractors?
Both. Homeowners, landlords, and property managers buy at the same wholesale pricing as licensed electricians and contractors. We are a supply house, not a retail store — but the door is open to everyone.
What do you carry for outdoor and landscape lighting?
Dabmar landscape and path fixtures, EMCOD low-voltage transformers, Alloy LED linear, Intermatic timers and photocells, weatherproof boxes and in-use covers, and PVC and fittings for underground runs to detached structures.
Can you supply everything for a rental turn?
Yes. Devices, plates, GFCIs, smoke and CO detectors, bath fans, flush mounts and closet fixtures, exterior lighting, and wire — priced as one list, the same day you send it.
How do I get to your counter from Northridge?
South on Reseda or Balboa to Sherman Way, then east to 13613 Sherman Way in Van Nuys. It is surface street the whole way if you would rather skip the freeway.
